Unbreakable Faith

by Claudia Ingles

As many of you know, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays Impact  provides food distribution for individuals and families in need.  One Wednesday evening last November, we met Fidelina Delgado. She arrived exhausted, carrying many physical needs—and a deep spiritual one as well. Our ministers spent time listening to her story, because at Impact we believe care begins with presence.  That night, Fidelina shared how difficult life had become for her family. She also shared that she was battling terminal cancer.

After hearing the gospel, Fidelina made a remarkable decision. That very evening, she chose to be baptized for the forgiveness of her sins and to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Even in the midst of pain, her face reflected peace and relief.  Fidelina frequently moves in and out of the hospital. That night, she received food through our pantry—but even more importantly, she received the salvation of her soul.

Since then, our church has remained in contact with her. As her health has declined, our ministers have continued to visit her, and Fidelina has shown what can only be described as an unbreakable faith. From a hospital bed, her trust in God remains strong. She shares that since her baptism, she has felt a deep and abiding peace. She faithfully prays for her children and for her husband, who is far away, and rests in the certainty of where she is going and in whom she has believed.  Within her fragile body lives a faith made strong by Christ.

Her testimony calls to mind the woman who touched the hem of Jesus’ garment—approaching Him with courage and trust, confident in His mercy.

“He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be healed of your affliction.’”
Mark 5:34
