Seeing the Unseen
By Carlos Ingles and Patrick Lemmons
Roberto had been to many churches before, but as a man who is blind, he often felt invisible. People rarely spoke to him or approached him. Week after week, he carried the heavy feeling of being present, yet unseen.
That all changed the day he walked into the Resource Center. From the moment he arrived, something was different. People greeted him with joy, eager to serve and quick to make him feel welcome. For the first time in a long time, Roberto felt noticed—he felt “seen.” What others had overlooked, Impact embraced, and it brought him a happiness he hadn’t experienced before.
That sense of belonging drew him back again and again. A couple of months later, Roberto chose to be baptized. Today, he is a member of Impact, continuing to find community and purpose in the place where he finally felt seen.
His story is a beautiful reminder: may we all open our eyes and hearts to “see” those who feel unseen.
