Middle School Summer
by Sydney Reynolds
This year’s middle school summer theme has been “Good News”, and let me tell you, the theme has been very fitting! This summer has been filled with nothing but good news as we have spent our days learning about the Good News of Jesus. These lessons have inspired not only so many fun activities and games, but also some amazing service projects and good news reports!
One of my favorite days this summer was learning in Matthew 5 and 6 about how to be the salt and light on this earth and about storing up treasures in heaven. The day’s activity was for each small group to spread as much kindness as they could by using only $5. I was touched and inspired by the way our middle schoolers fully embraced the task and were lights to the community around us! Some small groups bought Kool-aid mix and passed out cold Kool-aid cups and prayed with people walking on foot. Other groups made grilled cheese sandwiches and passed them out to people in need. Another group bought popsicles or waters to pass out under bridges in the downtown Houston area. Another group bought cookies and wrote cards to pass out to the elementary VBS. Every group came up with something different, but through it all God’s name was glorified! It was such a good reminder that anyone anywhere can follow Jesus’s calling to be salt and light in this dark world!
Please continue to pray for the rest of our summer! Pray that we continue to grow closer and stronger in our relationship with God as we learn about the Good News of the gospel!
