2024 Girls Retreat

by Raemi Goen

This past weekend the high school girls went to Oak Haven Christian Youth Camp for a retreat. The girls had the opportunity to hear from Ashli Riggs, Esmailyn Varner, and Karla Bilnoski about what it looks like to have a seat at God’s table. On Saturday evening, we had a panel of different women from the Impact community that shared their experience at God’s table. This panel was led by Caroline Morales and  included Destinee St. Jules, Kierra Varner, Megan Tarbet, Rubi Barrientos, Frida Rangel, Allison Blizzard, and Jordan Smith. We ended the night with a testimony from Maya Flournoy and Jackie Orozco. God used each and every one of these incredible women, and several other awesome volunteers, to testify for His Kingdom! From a massive food fight to extreme musical chairs, the creative mind of Dacia Lahmeyer made this weekend special. Dacia worked behind the scenes to make this weekend not only a success, but a blessing to each and every girl.

All of these ladies are the perfect example of the body of Christ coming together to serve the Kingdom. God has given each and every one of us spiritual gifts to bring to His table. We looked at examples from the Bible that show the way Jesus graciously invites us to the table, even in our mess. The sinful woman that washes Jesus’s feet with her hair shows us that we are welcomed to the table. The Samaritan woman at the well shows us that He is not afraid of the mess that we bring. When Jesus washes the disciples’ feet, He shows us that He has the authority to wash our sins clean. Now that we have a seat at the table, what are we willing to sacrifice to sit with Him?

The girls’ retreat showed us all what it looks like to be a part of His Kingdom. As we have returned to Houston, please pray for our high school girls. Pray that they can take what they learned from this weekend and apply it to their lives to further the Kingdom of God!
