God-Given Character
by Geremy Varner and Paul Bailey
The Fall retreat was incredible! The weather was wonderful, and the boys were crazy!! (but In a good way). It was so good getting to escape from the city and spend time in the country at Camp Oak Haven in Columbus Texas with 41 young men. Our theme was “God Given Character.” We spent the weekend talking about perseverance, patience, lust, temptation, and being a man and leader. And even though we sounded terrible it was so great getting to worship God with the boys. Listening to them pouring their heart out to Him was so cool to be a part of. It was also spectacular to see new relationships being made between the kids, adults and God.

When we were not having bible study we were playing capture the flag, swimming, kickball, scavenger hunt, and hide in seek in the woods at night. But I think the kids’ favorite thing was making smores (because it involved chocolate) . A huge thank you to Kenneth Adams, Mike Espinoza, Michael Guffy, and Daniel Rodriguez for leading bible studies. It was such a blessing getting poured into by these amazing men of God. Special thanks to Matt Laymeyer, Eric Morales and Luis Barrios for being our chefs and making delicious food! I’m so thankful that we have so many phenomenal men in the church that are willing to give up their weekend to show our young men what a man of God looks like. Our prayer is that we continue to be the men that God intended us to be.
