Take off the Old, Put on the New
by Geremy Varner
God blessed us with an amazing program this summer filled with Bible studies, service projects, field trips and camp. Our summer theme was “Church Clothes” and the scripture we focused on was Colossians 3:1-17. All summer we talked about why it’s good to take off things like anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language that hurt our relationships with others, ourselves but most importantly God. But instead to be putting on love, compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Some of the acts of kindness we had the opportunity to be a part of this summer was volunteering at the Salvation Army and Houston food bank, and passing out bags of groceries and handmade cards to the residents at Independence Hall. We walked through the neighborhood around Impact picking up trash, and bagged produce at the Impact Resource Center. We helped organize furniture and stuff in the warehouse, and at one point gave each small group $5 dollars and they had to come up with different ways to be a blessing to others.
Some of the field trips we were blessed to participate in were Jump World, Skating, Oil Ranch, Wildlife Zoo and going to the Beach. It was so amazing to see how the kid’s relationship with God and each other had grown throughout the summer. None of this would’ve been possible without the amazing support we had from our 7 phenomenal interns, and the love, support, encouragement we received from our amazing church family. Thank you so much!
